Coffee Makers, cooking appliances having different varieties and methods to brew the coffee have removed the inconvenience to boil the water in different containers. In the very initial stage roasted and ground coffee beans were placed in a pot or pan to which hot water was added followed by attachment of a lid to commence the infusion process. An idea to change the process of brewing coffee finally made the first modern method for making coffee. The biggin, originating in France ca. 1800 was a two-level pot holding appliance in which coffee was placed in an upper compartment and water was poured to drain through holes in the bottom compartment into the coffee pot below.  In the next development process of coffee makers, a French inventor developed the “pumping percolator” in which boiling water in a bottom chamber forces itself up a tube and then trickles through the ground coffee back into the bottom chamber.

Vacuum Coffee Brewer:

Vacuum Coffee brewer: a bodum vacuum brewer where the coffee is sucked back. The Napier Vacuum machine invented in 1840 was an early example of this type. The principle was to heat water in a lower vessel until expansion forced the contents through narrow tube into upper vessel containing ground coffee. When the lower vessel was empty and sufficient brewing time had elapsed then heat was removed and the resulting vacuum draw the brewed coffee back through a strainer into the lower chamber from which it could be decanted.

The next variant technique called a balance siphon having two chambers arranged side by side was the next coffee brewing method. On August 27, 1930 Inez H. Pierce of Chicago, Illinois invented the first vacuum coffee maker that truly automated the vacuum brewing process. An electrically heated stove was incorporated into the design of the vacuum brewer.

Electric Percolator:

James Nason of Massachusetts patented the early percolator design in 1865. An Illinois farmer named Hanson Goodrich is credited with patenting the modern percolator. The impact of science and technological advances as a motif in post –war design was eventually felt in the manufacture and marketing of coffee and coffee-makers.

Consumer guides emphasized the ability of the device to meet standards of temperature and brewing time, and the ratio of soluble elements between brew and grounds. In later years, coffee makers began to adopt more standardized form commensurate with a large increase in the scale of production required to meet postwar consumer demand. Plastics and composite materials began to replace metal, particularly with the advent of newer electric drip coffee makers in 1970s. During 1990s, consumer demand for more attractive appliances to complement expensive modern kitchens resulted in new wave of re-designed coffee makers in a wider range of available colors and styles.

Modern Coffee Maker

We find three things in the top of this coffee maker:

There is a reservoir that holds the water when you pout it into the pot at the start of the coffee making cycle.
There is a white tube that leads up from the below the reservoir base, carrying the hot water up to the drip area.
There is a shower head. Water arrives here from the white hot-water tube and is sprayed over the coffee grounds. In some coffee makers, the water comes out of the hose into a perforated plastic disc called the drip area and simply falls through the holes into the coffee grounds.

Making Coffee

The boiling water-pump in this machine having same mechanism drives a percolator type coffee machine, which makes extremely reliable.

Different Coffee Makers have different mechanism but the process is same to brew the Coffee from different Coffee Makers. No matter, what is it? Have fun with various Coffee Makers.

What To Know About Pod Coffee Makers

What To Know About Pod Coffee Makers

There are so many different coffee brew methods available, and the odds are that you have already seen pod coffee brewers on the market. So what do these types of coffee brewers have to offer that a traditional drip brew coffee maker doesn’t? Pod coffee makers offer the easy convenience of instant brewing, and they may also save you money in the long run.

When you think about it, for an average coffee maker, you may be spending hundreds of dollars per year on coffee grounds and filters, not to mention the water and electricity it takes to keep the machine running. If you are hoping for a convenient and fresh cup of Joe, you may want to consider a pod coffee maker because they use single servings of coffee grounds that are enclosed within a pod filter. When you use this type of machine, only one cup of coffee will be brewed at a time, which means that you will avoid wasting excess coffee in your pot if you brew too much. This is perfectly convenient for anyone with a busy lifestyle because you can simply brew one cup as you are walking out the door on your way to work, or you can even have a pod coffee maker in your office to brew a single cup of Joe for your coffee break.

Another benefit to the pod coffee maker is that you will no longer have to drink stale coffee. Many times, people will come upon a half empty coffee pot, not knowing how long it has been sitting there. There is nothing more disappointing than taking a sip of your Java, only to find out that it is stale and bitter because it sat out for too long. Pod coffee makers offer instant freshness and convenience in coffee brewing, which is one reason that they are so popular.

One big advantage to take into consideration of using a pod coffee maker is that they are quite easy to clean. Many traditional coffee makers are difficult to clean because the filter system can become clogged with the residue of coffee bean essential oils. Traditional coffee makers also have a glass carafe that often needs to be washed, and it can even become burnt if it sits on the burner for too long. Pod coffee makers are handy because they will brew directly into a cup, so you don’t have to deal with any type of mess at all.

Many people may prefer the immediate ease of using this type of coffee brewing mechanism because there is no measuring or filtering done by the user. These are pre-portioned coffee ground pods, and all you have to do is use one individual pod, which already contains a filter. This means that you can place the pod within the coffee maker, and your cup of Joe will begin to brew right before your eyes. Pod coffee makers are more of an investment than a traditional coffee machine, but if you are hoping for convenience and less effort on your part, then that is priceless!

Coffee Makers – A Brief History

by Lasse Havelund

Coffee Makers – A Brief History

It is believed that the Yemen were the first to drink coffee from beans in the 15th century: others say it was the Turks. It is also believed that the coffee maker was nothing more than a pot. Today, the Turks say that the first coffee maker was a copper or brass Ibrik. The Ibrik was somewhat round on the bottom half and then had a straight body the rest of the way up. There was a long fairly wide spout at the top and a metal strap handle in the shape of a large C connected to the pot. When coffee was made they put roasted coffee “berries” that had been coarsely ground in the bottom of this coffee maker. Hot water was then poured over the beans in the bottom and then boiled for several hours. When Arabs traveled through the desert, the Ibrik was put into the hot sand and the heat from the hot sand brewed the mixture. Different spices such as cloves, cinnamon, cardamon and anise were often added to the brew.

The first noted commercial coffee brewers were those used in coffee houses that opened in Istanbul, Turkey in 1554. Drinking coffee from coffee makers spread to Persia and on to the Ottoman Empire and northern Africa. Next, the taste for coffee spread to Europe; it is the Dutch sailors who then spread coffee and the need for coffeemakers to the rest of the world. Coffee came to America by way of the British in the 1607. Colonists, who were mainly tea drinkers, began to drink more coffee; especially after the Boston Tea party in 1773. All this coffee drinking then inspired a need for a better coffee maker.

During the time mentioned above coffee was made by dropping the grounds in the bottom of a “coffee pot” that now came in various shapes with a spout at the top on one side and a wooden handle on the other; some were very ornate and made of silver. Hot water was poured over the coffee grounds and boiled for a few minutes. Then, in the late 1770s, a two chamber coffee maker began to be used. Coffee grounds were put in an upper chamber. Boiling water was poured into the upper chamber that allowed only liquid to go to the lower chamber.  This was an expensive coffee maker and not many people had them.

Next, there came a series of coffee makers. The first of these was the percolator in 1865. It was the stove top percolator similar to the ones we have today. When it was placed on a hot stove, the boiling water was forced up the hollow stem and over the coffee in a “basket.” Many people still prefer this method as it makes a stronger tasting coffee; however, today, they also prefer electric percolators. Another coffee maker that some still like to use is the vacuum coffee maker, which looks like two pots, one upside down on the other. When heat forms a pressure, it forces hot water up into the top chamber where it infuses with the coffee grounds. When the heat is taken away, the pressure is released and the hot water, now coffee, returns to the bottom chamber. Not too much later the electric percolator was introduced; the French Press coffeemaker was introduced as well. Course coffee was placed in the bottom of a straight container and a plunger with a filter in the center was pushed down and allowed the coffee to come to the top. This is another method that still remains popular today.

The most popular form of coffee maker was introduced by the Mr. Coffee brand of coffeemakers. It is called the “pourover” method coffeemaker. Whether water is pumped over or poured over, hot water is infused with coffee grounds in a basket, usually with a filter that allows the coffee to drip into a decanter below.

Last, but not least are the espresso makers of today. The first one was made in France, but did not work very well. An Italian bought the patent and improved on it. After World War II, the Italians concentrated on the improvement of espresso machines. Today, Italian espresso machines and cappuccino machines whether made in America or Europe, or for the home or commercial use, remain highly sought after.

We at www.italianbeandelight.com sell the Yama Vacuum Coffee Maker, the perfect syphon coffee stovetop brewer with a capicity of 5 or 8 cups for the perfect gourmet drip coffee. Cheaper than other vacuum coffee makers like cona, hario or bodum santos, this yama vacuum brewer brews coffee with a great body, but without the sediment you would get in a French press. It has a longlasting cloth filter that fits over the metal filter assembly and should be replaced each year. The lid doubles as a stand for the funnel (top glass part), and it comes with a spare cloth filter and a burner wire grid for use on an electric stove. The glass is labelled on the bottom as “Heat-Resistant Yama Glass”. The brewer is easy to use. The rubber gasket between the top and the bottom -the flange on it makes the creation of an airtight seal (and the separation of top and bottom when the coffee is brewed) much easier. The 5 cup model is fine for 2 people. For more people you should rather prefer the 8 cup model. We compared the Yama vaccum brewer with the bodum santos vacuum brewer. Using the same coffee beans, same grind, the brewed coffee tastes different Produced with the Yama vacuum brewers, the coffee develops its aroma to the fullest.

The History of Espresso Coffee Makers

coffee maker
by 24oranges.nl

The History of Espresso Coffee Makers

Espresso coffee makers came into existence from man’s need for a faster cup of coffee. The espresso machines not only produced the coffee faster but also produced a better one. Initially in some machines they found some kinks to be worked out but the coffee maker inventors didn’t let little issues deter them.

Who invented the first espresso coffee machine?

Each record gives us different answers. Some record says, the first espresso coffee maker was invented by Louis Bernard Babaut in 1822 along with Edward Santais, who was the marketer of machine in 1843. It got the publicity in 1855 at the Universal Exposition in Paris.

According to the records, in an hour a coffee maker can produce one thousand cups of espresso coffee using steam to force water through coffee held in the filter. Every new invention has to bear risk and this espresso coffee maker was not an exception. It had a tendency to blow from time to time and sometimes it burned the coffee too.

The initial espresso coffee makers weren’t so easy to use. Operating them required some degree of skill and it left plenty of room for diversity. The intensity of the heat & the length of time were controlled by the operator and the water valve remained open. The coffee users could put in less coffee grounds & obtain strong coffee or use more water & get a diluted one.

Further records credit Luigi Bezzera, a manufacturer, with the invention of Espresso in 1903. Bezzera wanted to make coffee faster, so he added more pressure due to which ‘Voila’ the Fast Coffee Machine was born. This machine made coffee faster and better than any other machine. The machine invented by Bezzera used the force of steam to push water through a fixed filter containing coffee.

Even though Bezzera was skilled in inventing, he was lacking in the marketing talent to promote his creation. In 1905, Desidero Pavoni purchased the rights of the espresso machine and the product was successfully marketed, changing the way everyone drank coffee. The coffee makers were sold throughout Europe by Pavoni.

Franceso Illy created the first automatic espresso coffee maker. In 1935, Illeta invented the coffee maker and used compressed air instead of steam for his machine. The problem of exploding espresso coffee makers was solved by this machine & gave a more stable result.

The espresso coffee maker invented by Achille’s Gaggia bears his name in 1945. The lever action was included in his invention and even today we can get the modern versions of both Illeta and Gaggia espresso coffee makers. An electric rotating pump was created by Ernest Valente in 1950. The pump allowed a continuous, even flow of water through the coffee maker.

In 1970’s, Illy went on to simplify the espresso coffee maker process, when he introduced a machine that combined the best parts of previous espresso coffee maker methods. His machine used double filters, which costs less than other coffee makers and was simple to use.

Super automatic espresso coffee makers were born in the 70′s. Now they are the standard coffee makers in many countries. The machines continue to evolve. The debate over which methods and which machines produce the best espresso will be going on as long as people continue to enjoy their cup of Joe.

Differences in One-cup Coffee Makers

coffee maker
by tmray02

Differences in One-cup Coffee Makers

For many years, coffee makers were just that. They would brew a pot of coffee, which was then poured into several different cups. However, in recent years, there have been advancements in coffee makers, and the most popular new type of coffee makers is one cup coffee makers. Not surprisingly, these coffee makers make one cup of coffee at a time. These machines are very popular because many people enjoy being able to make one cup of coffee at a time. There are several different types of one cup coffee makers out there on the market today.

One of the initial advances one-cup coffee makers offered were smaller coffee pots, which saved time and unused coffee grounds. These smaller coffee pots only hold enough water for one cup of coffee at a time. An individual would add a spoonful of coffee, and wait a few moments for the pot to percolate. This allows a person to make only one cup at a time.

However, there are many more advancements one-cup coffee makers have to offer than just smaller decanters. One of the biggest challenges was that it was often difficult to measure out the amount of coffee needed for one cup of coffee. Due to this difficulty, the pod type coffee makers were born. The pod coffee makers were a way for people to have one cup of coffee, and not have to worry about deciding how much coffee to put in their one cup coffee makers.

With a pod coffee maker, a person puts in enough water to have one cup of coffee. Then, instead of putting loose coffee into the coffee maker, a pod is put there instead. The pod is constructed out of coffee-filter material, with the pre-measured coffee inside of it. The pod is placed into the coffee pot; hot water is run through it, creating the perfect cup of coffee.

There are also one-cup coffee makers that make coffee directly into the mug. These coffee makers use portioned packets or pods to have just the right amount of coffee grounds. The mug is part of the coffee maker itself. Hot water is poured into the coffee maker, and the coffee is percolated directly into specially made mugs that attach to the coffee maker. These coffee pots are very easy to use and very convenient. However, if the coffee mug is lost or broken, the entire coffee pot cannot be used. Some of the brands have replacement coffee mugs that can be purchased.

There are many reasons that a person might want to use a one-cup coffee maker. With the pods and portioned packets, a person can choose one single type of coffee each day. A husband can have one type of coffee while a wife has another type of coffee. Also, a person can have only one cup of coffee at a time. Many people prefer this because they do not have to wait for an entire pot of coffee to brew. Usually, one cup coffee makers brew the coffee in a matter of minutes.

The revolution of one cup coffee makers has led to an influx in the coffee market in general. In the past, flavored coffees and specialty coffees were not sold as much because people did not want to make entire pots of different coffees.

However, with the advent of the one-cup coffee makers, specialty coffee brands are introducing new products all the time. Different flavors can be alternated with little effort, and this feature is one that many individuals greatly prefer. Some people enjoy one-cup coffee makers because it allows them to experiment with different kinds of coffee without purchasing a whole bag of coffee grounds. Also, if they do not like the flavor, a one-cup coffee maker does not create too much waste. The common perception is that people are more likely to try various kinds of coffee when they only have to try one cup at a time. In this environmentally conscious world, this thought process makes perfect sense. Also, a person is much more likely to try out different types of coffees if they can purchase variety packs of many different types to use in their one cup coffee makers.

As with many other popular products, there is an evolution in how a product is brought to the consumer. In this case, less is certainly more, and coffee-lovers everywhere are enjoying this advancement one cup at a time.

Various Espresso Coffee Makers you Can Choose From

No avid espresso drinker’s life feels complete without an espresso coffee maker that will deliver espresso the way the espresso drinker likes it each morning. Surprisingly, many people still go plop down to at the local coffee shop instead of buying their own espresso coffee makers . If you are one of these people that for whatever reason still has not purchased an espresso machine, stay tuned.

Of course, you don’t want to just throw money at the first espresso coffee machine that comes along. You need to decide how lazy you want to be with your espresso machine. Odds are that the reason you don’t own one has some correlation to not wanting to spend a whole lot of time making your espresso. But just in case you are interested in all of the details of making espresso, we’ll discuss manual espresso coffee makers too.

Manual espresso coffee makers basically require you to already have your coffee beans ground and to manually put the grounds and the water in the machine. Also, if you like frothing, most of these have a pump you can use to add frothing.

For a little more convenience, you can get a mostly automatic espresso maker. To use these machines, you have a pump you start and then wait about thirty seconds for extraction. These are about the most popular home espresso coffee machines because they are inexpensive and relatively small. For a little more money, you can get a slightly larger mostly automatic espresso machine that has self on-off control built in as well.

Of course, if you are a true espresso aficionado and you spend a lot of money on espresso already, you might as well have an automatic one that will make you that perfect espresso each time at whatever time you have espressos scheduled. How automatic is automatic? The thing taps right into your plumbing. You just have to occasionally check your coffee bean reservoir and disposal bin.

What Sets Keurig Coffee Makers Apart From the Competition

coffee maker
by Ben McLeod

What Sets Keurig Coffee Makers Apart From the Competition

With the Keurig brand of coffee makers, the perfect cup of coffee is just one purchase away. The right coffee maker can be exceedingly difficult to find. “Gourmet” machines and blends are saturating the grocery store shelves, and each system seems to have its own set of flaws. Traditional one cup systems may not be able to make enough coffee to satiate your thirst and larger coffee pots have trouble putting out the high end quality that you so desperately desire, or are simply too expensive. Then there are the pots that are not too big, not too small, and they are capable of providing an excellent quality of coffee. These can be pricey, and to make many of these devices work you have to purchase hard to find filters and grind your own beans. Sure, if you are a real aficionado it may be worth the time. Time is of the essence for the average coffee drinker. The Keurig Coffee system manages to solve all of these problems, while leaving the consumer with the perfect blend of coffee.

The first problem solved by the Keurig coffee pot is the size of each cup. The Keurig coffee pots are one cup systems, but they are also capable of making your coffee in under a minute. While many systems may be capable of this feat, Keurig does it with no sacrifice to flavor. This allows the user to brew many cups of coffee in a short time despite the low capacity per brew. You can also adjust the cup size between eight and ten ounces, even in Keurig’s low-end models. Another issue that often relates to size and brand of coffee makers is finding filters and blends. While most high-end coffee makers make it difficult for the average consumer to get filters and grind coffee, the Keurig Company strives to make it easier.

Using a unique device called a “K-Cup” any individual can brew with perfection. Each “K-Cup” uses the perfect amount of coffee to give your cup a flawless taste. To some, this may initially sound like a bad idea because some may want to decide the extent to which they want to saturate their coffee with flavor. But these cups come in different sizes to allow you some freedom for preference. Another potential drawback to the “K-Cup” system is being restricted in brand and flavor. However, Keurig uses more than twelve different brands for their “K-Cups,” and within these brands, there are well over a hundred options in terms of blends. When you add to that the fact that each manufacturer of “K-Cups” (The many brands that Keurig subscribes to) offer different prices and purchasing limitations. Beyond that, you can even buy a reusable filter and grind your own coffee if you insist. K-Cups are available in many locations. For example, you can purchase K-Cups online or at your local grocery store. This makes K-Cups easy to obtain and it eliminates any hassle from brewing your next cup of coffee.

There are other aspects of the Keurig design that make their products stand out from the rest. First of all, they are designed for efficiency. No more constantly heating water in-between cups because the Keurig systems can keep cups heated over time. You may also find that clean up is very fast and easy with a Keurig pot. The design also avoids being ultra-modern or classical and therefore is aesthetically pleasing in a wide variety of decorative styles.

A final flaw that often occurs with gourmet coffee makers is an inability to be used in a wide variety of ways. The lack of feature diversity may reduce your desire to spend upwards of a hundred dollars on a coffee machine. If the machine can brew a good cup of coffee, you may be inclined to spend the money on the coffee machine. The Keurig systems do much more then just make coffee. “K-Cups” are manufactured by tea and cocoa makers as well. The ease and efficiency that this product provides in making these beverages makes it something that can be used to please the entire family in only minutes. Switching from coffee, to tea, to cocoa, to decaf and back to regular coffee is about as easy as changing the “K-Cup” around.

The Keurig Coffee systems also offer a wide variety of products. Brewers are available specifically for use in the home, the office and even in hotels. All of this goes along with the perfect size, efficiency, quality and versatility to make Keurig products perfect for even the most discriminating of coffee connoisseurs. When you are looking for a way to create an excellent cup of coffee, be sure to consider the Keurig coffee brewing system. You can make a high quality cup of coffee in a matter of minutes.

Suzanne Bradley is a freelance writer who writes about style and living, often offering suggestions about certain brands of products to try such as Keurig.

Coffee Makers and Coffee Grinders

Coffee Makers and Coffee Grinders

From the regular drip coffee maker to the old fashioned coffee perker, and even the gourmet espresso machine, coffee makers and grinders are a common kitchen gadget. Many people around the world love a fresh cup of home brewed coffee, and they like to make it for their company or in the morning to go with breakfast. There are many ways to get the job done, and here are some of the most common.

In the majority of coffee makers, automatic drip machines, pre-ground coffee is placed in a paper or metal filter, which is over top a glass coffee pot . Cold water is poured in, the machine heats it up to boiling and it trickles through the coffee grounds, then into the pot. There are also single cup drip coffee makers which don’t use electricity, and you just pour boiling water into the top. These coffee makers are pretty easy to find in any department store, and can make from four to ten cups at once depending on the model.

There are single serving coffee makers that use a measured packet of coffee grounds like a tea bag. These are purchased in different flavors and varieties, ready to use. These are popular gadgets for houses that only need one cup of coffee made at once.

The coffee plunger, or French press, is another popular tool for making small amounts of coffee. It works by placing the coffee and hot water together, leaving it to brew for a few minutes, then pushing the plunger to the bottom to separate the grounds from the coffee. Since French presses don’t use paper filters that would remove the oils and sediment with the grounds, French pressed coffee can be stronger and thicker than drip-brewed coffee.

Finally, there are espresso machines which produce a concentrated coffee ‘shot’ using hot water forced under high pressure through very fine grounds. A shot of espresso is thicker than regular coffee and has more sediment in it. Espresso is used in many other coffee drinks, such as lattes, cappuccini, and mochas. This is a much stronger drink than many are accustomed to, although some would say it is the only ‘real’ coffee.

If you want the full flavor and aroma from fresh ground coffee beans, you need a way to grind them at home. There are many different coffee grinders on the market, most having steel blades. As with many things, a little more money gets you a product that will perform better. For the real gourmet, a burr grinder is a step up from the steel bladed variety.

My favorite coffee maker came with a timer and a coffee grinder built into it. Every morning the preloaded coffee beans go into the grinder and grounds pour down into the filter. By the time I get up, coffee is ready. What a way to start the day. Bottoms up!
